Hey Peeps! Last month I was able to attend an event by Rachel Odem (Cosmetic Guru) and found it very informal. I was in a room full of natural hair beauties and vendors. There were presenters showing us “How To” tricks for locking hair, wrapping your hair with scarfs, skincare techniques and more.
One of the presenters was Octavia Hooks. Wow! This lady knows her stuff about locks! A few things I learned from her was that there are 3 different types of locks: Traditional, Sister, and Custom.
Locks:
She talked about her experience with locking her own hair to sharing stories of others as well. She shared some locking techniques and locking maintenance. She is the “Locking Guru.” (SN: She gave me a s/o about my twisted hairstyle… hey nah.)
Another presenter was Asantewaa. She shared tips on how to wrap your hair with scarfs. While she was demonstrating, she had the audience going “ooooh” “aaaaah” and even “It’s that easy?” (I really enjoyed her because this winter I planned on rocking more wrapped styles to protect my hair.)
There had to be over 13 vendors selling products ranging from jewelry, clothes, skincare products and more. Everyone there enjoyed the event and excited for the next one by Rachel!
Is it makeup? Is it natural hair? Is it skincare? YES IT IS! Rachel Odem, a cosmetic specialist knows it all when it comes to natural beauty. She has been in the cosmetic game for over 10 years and she loves her job.

Rachel, a Chicagoland native spends some of her time educating women about the “How To’s” in beauty. She is so good at what she does, that Chicago Magazine and Ebony Beauty Awards acknowledges her! PCQ was able to get the inside scoop with Rachel… Check it out!

RACHEL ODEM
PCQ: How did you come up with the idea of having a networking event for natural beauties?
Rachel: Every where I go I am constantly asked about my hair from the toll road, to the grocery store people ask me about everything from product use to referral for hair stylist. I also saw a lack of confidence in those beginning their natural hair journey I wanted to provide a place of inspiration, support and education for those in the natural hair community.
PCQ: For women who have natural hair, do you have any tips on maintaining moisture and gaining length?
Rachel: The biggest thing to help maintain moisture is to moisturize daily and if possible when you wash and shampoo add a deep conditioning treatment this can work wonders. On gaining length, trimming your ends can help a lot!
PCQ: If you have a natural hair regime, what are your secrets?
Rachel: My secrets are to use good quality products, not every product maybe meant for your hair type so I look for products that work well for my texture. I don’t stress a lot about my hair, because I really enjoy it being natural most days I just let it do what it wants to do and don’t worry about a lot of products (other than shampoo/condition and moisture) or styling. I am close to being a rasta without the dreads:)
PCQ: Putting on makeup can be overwhelming and time consuming. Do you have any quick tips for women who are always on the go?
Rachel: I actually just created a video on this topic, I will send the link over to you today. (I’ll be posting the video later)
PCQ: I understand natural beauty is the best way to go, but if you couldn’t live without one item of makeup… what would it be?
Rachel: Natural Beauty for me does not mean no makeup, I love a great tinted moisturizer and concealer. (I totally agree with concealer…a must have!)
Well there you have it folks, the inside scoop with Rachel Odem. Not only is she beautiful, but she has the brains to back it up! I attended one of her events, “Celebrating Natural Beauty” that really helped me a lot. Rachel has the secrets and she definitely enlighten the whole room with facts.

I Present to you… Richard Hawkins
When I went to go visit the Art Institute yesterday with a new friend from Spain, we came across Richard Hawkins Contemporary pieces. I instantly fell in love with his twisted characteristics shown in his paintings. I enjoyed his vibrant colors and awkward appeals to the human body. Some of the pictures shown below were painted images of tourist in Tokyo (don’t quote me) and his view about wanting more “sexiness” in his drawings. If you ever get a chance to visit, please check them out. I felt a little immature looking at some of them because I couldn’t help but laugh. I love how he characterized their bottoms, too glitter lol. But, his Zombie collection is by far the least favorite of mine. Too gory, dark, and depressing for me.
I’ll be posting old post from my old blog. So I want to share a few that I really enjoyed. Here I go, I hope you enjoy.
Check out new music from Breathe Carolina! “Blackout” is for those who love that dance feel good feelin.
